Sports Centre

The University Sports Centre

The University Sports Centre offers fitness services, classes and personal training to students, staff and the local community of St Andrews. Situated towards the west of the town and near the golf courses, the Sports Centre can also provide additional services including equipment for hire, professional advice on fitness training, and help with organising training camps. To find out about Sports Centre opening times, staff and currently available spaces, visit the Sports Centre website.

As well as membership for students and for staff, the Sports Centre offers membership to members of the public over the age of 18. Concessionary membership rates are available for the partners and family members (age 18 to 21) of University of St Andrews students and staff, senior citizens (age 60 and over), Athletic Union life members, and graduates of the University. To find out which membership scheme is best for you please visit the community membership page.

The University also wishes to encourage and support high performance sport within members of the local community. Talented athletes can benefit from the facilities and services available at the Sports Centre at a reduced rate or free of charge, enabling them to fulfil their sporting potential. Find out more on the community talented athlete web page.

The Sports Centre has a range of indoor and outdoor facilities available all year round, including dedicated fitness suites, gymnasium, studio and free weights room. Outside spaces include synthetic turf pitches, tennis courts, athletics track, football, rugby, cricket and shinty pitches. Most facilities are free to members but non members can also book in advance.

Fitness classes

The Sports Centre is also home to the Saints Fitness exercise programme. This vibrant programme of exercise classes is open to all, including members of the community. The fitness exercise programme offers a wide variety of classes to suit all levels and abilities.

The programme has both pre-bookable and drop in classes available. To find out about current fitness classes — including a current timetable — take a look at the health and fitness pages on the Sports Centre website.

Visiting teams

For sports teams coming to play at the University of St Andrews, the Sports Centre offers a warm welcome. Most visiting teams playing against St Andrews should report to the Sports Centre reception on arrival. The exceptions are the following men’s teams: football, rugby cricket and rugby, who should report directly to the pavilion at the start of the playing fields, where the visiting team can find changing facilities.

The University of St Andrews playing colours are navy blue, sky blue and white.

Sport for children

The Sports Centre also offers a range of sporting activities for children. The Junior Saints programme incorporates activities for preschool children aged between three and five, after school activities, holiday camps during the summer and Easter holidays, and sports themed birthday parties. Find out more on the Junior Saints web pages.

Professional training camps

The Sports Centre also welcomes sports teams and clubs to get in touch to organise pre-season and mid-season training camps using University facilities. Previous teams who have run training camps include Barcelona Football Club, Manchester United Football Club, golfer Rory McIlroy and the Scotland Rugby Squad. To find out more about facilities available to professional teams and sports people, visit the training camps for professionals web pages.
