Family services and childcare

If you are a UK student, you may be eligible for childcare or discretionary funds to assist with the cost of childcare.

Education

Children between the ages of 5 and 18 may attend school in Scotland. If you are an international student and you have children between the ages of 5 and 18, they may attend primary and secondary school free of charge, provided they have gained entry clearance as a dependant of yours.

There are also some free part-time preschool education places available for 3 to 5 year olds. This is available to all students. More information about these places can be found from the Fife Childcare Information Service.

Financial assistance

If you are a UK student, you may be eligible for childcare or discretionary funds. You should make sure that you are claiming any child tax credits for which you are eligible.

Additional support

If your children are not native speakers of English, support is available. The Bilingual Support Service of Fife Council Education Service collaborates with schools and parents to support pupils in Fife schools who are learning English as an additional language. Help is also available within the school system for children with learning difficulties.

More information about childcare provision within St Andrews is available from Scottish Childcare. You can also contact Fife Council for more information.
